Face-to-Face Training Opportunities

Date: Thursday, 23rd Feb 2023 | Category: Events, Training

Hampshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (HSCP) are excited to be hosting some face-to-face training opportunities over the coming months. This training is available for free to all professionals working with children and young people in Hampshire. The information below outlines upcoming face-to-face training opportunities.

Working Together and Preparing for Child Protection Conferences

This course enables delegates to develop their knowledge and skills regarding multi-agency child protection and safeguarding. Delegates are supported in identifying the roles and responsibilities of different agencies involved in safeguarding and how to work together effectively within the legal framework, national guidance and local safeguarding procedures. This training explores the types of services and support that a family may need, depending on the risks identified and the threshold that is met.

As part of this training, delegates will participate in a mock Initial Child Protection Conference chaired by a Hampshire Independent Reviewing Officer. This a valuable opportunity for delegates to experience first-hand the structure of an Initial Child Protection Conference and the requirements of professionals involved.

Advanced Professional Development on Reducing Parental Conflict

In association with Relate, the Hampshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (HSCP) are pleased to continue to offer the Advanced Professionals Development on the topic of Reducing Parental Conflict, following the positive feedback received on sessions held earlier in the year.

  • Five face-to-face delivery sessions will be held across districts to enable multi-agency partners to come together in their area to share practice and learning together.
  • There are also five virtual delivery dates to enable flexibility of attendance.

For this opportunity to develop and strengthen professional practice please see below for scheduled dates and venues.

What you will gain:

Participants will learn how to identify and understand the detrimental impact exposure of parental conflict can have on a child or children living in the family. They will determine how to respond, protect children, and support parents.

Delivered by Relate, the full-day workshop (from 10am to 4.30pm) will enhance practitioners’ skills, knowledge, and confidence in developing professional practice when managing parental conflict. Practitioners will develop confidence in the implementation of a framework and models to support them in providing a proportionate response when there is conflict between parents.

This interactive workshop is recommended for all multi-agency professionals who work directly with parents/families where there is conflict, such as schools, community health workers, substance misuse, adult mental health, domestic abuse and family support services as well as, intensive support workers and social workers.

By attending this workshop, you will:

  • Confidently be able to explain to parents how conflictive behaviours being used by them and others within the family network can have a negative impact on family life in particular the children.
  • Explore and reflect on your own internal biases and/or personal experiences, and how these may impact or stop you from recognising or responding to signs of family conflict early on, in your interactions with the families you support.
  • Use real life experience and professional practice to enhance learning and address scenarios such as disguised compliance, non-engagement, and boundary setting to reduce conflict from hindering meaningful intervention and overshadowing the needs of the child.
  • Further develop skills and confidence in initiating restorative, strength-based challenging conversations. Use scenario-based case studies to address topics including parents in distressed relationships, separated parents, same-sex parents, and parents with additional needs.
  • Increase comprehension, knowledge, and guidance on legalities of shared parental responsibility and managing the rights of both parents.
  • Gain awareness and signposting to other services including use of the FISH, as well as reflection tools to assist parents to review their own parenting style, conflict triggers and emotional regulation.
