Organisational Responsibilities

Statutory Responsibilities

All organisations working with children and families are responsible for ensuring that their staff and volunteers are confident and competent in carrying out their responsibilities for safeguarding children. Staff should have access to appropriate development opportunities to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to abuse and neglect. HSCP will hold agencies to account in their efforts to ensure that all staff and volunteers working with children and/or their parents/carers are trained in safeguarding to an appropriate level.

Hampshire Safeguarding Children Partnership commissions and delivers multi-agency events to complement in-house training.

What Training Do I Need?

All organisations working with children and families are responsible for ensuring that staff receive appropriate safeguarding training relevant to their role and responsibilities.

To assist organisations in fulfilling this responsibility, HSCP has produced a set of training standards. These standards are outlined in the HSCP Learning and Development Policy.

HSCP cannot accredit, approve and/or recommend single-agency safeguarding training. All organisations working with children and families should evaluate themselves against the training policy in terms of their roles and responsibilities and compliance with the training standards. This evaluation should inform the organisation’s training strategy.

Safeguarding courses by external providers are not required to be approved by Hampshire Safeguarding Children Partnership, although it would be good practice to ensure that any courses for Hampshire professionals are in line with HSCP policies and procedures.
