Current Courses

HSCP have produced a Training Brochure which outlines the HSCP training offer for professionals in 2019/20.

All professionals/practitioners working in any of the following organisations can access free HSCP multi-agency learning events:

  • Hampshire County Council (All Departments)
  • Hampshire Constabulary
  • Hampshire’s Clinical Commissioning Groups (West Hampshire, North Hampshire, North East Hampshire and Farnham, South Eastern Hampshire, Fareham and Gosport)
  • Health Providers Commissioned to Deliver Services to Children Resident in the Hampshire Local Authority Area
  • Maintained, Academy and Independent Primary, Secondary and Special Schools (including Pupil Referral Units) in the Hampshire Local Authority Area
  • Early Years Settings in the Hampshire Local Authority Area
  • Post 16 Colleges Providing Education to Children Resident in the Hampshire Local Authority Area
  • District / Borough / City Councils (including commissioned services)
  • Hampshire Fire & Rescue
  • Ministry of Defence (Army Welfare Service)
  • National Probation Service
  • NHS England (Wessex)
  • Hampshire & Isle of Wight CRC
  • Winchester Diocese
  • Portsmouth Diocese
  • A number of free spaces are allocated to voluntary sector organisations
  • For-profit organisations may also access HSCP training at a charge

Multi-agency events bring professionals together to develop knowledge and skills, emphasising the benefits of working together to deliver positive outcomes for children and families.

As these courses are fully funded, regretfully, we are unable to provide delegates with refreshments. We aim to use venues with facilities where delegates can purchase food and drinks if they would like to. If this is not available at a venue, delegates will be informed in advance.

HSCP – Safeguarding in the Context of Social Media and Technology 

This is a half day course which aims to raise awareness of safeguarding children around the issues of social media and technology, developing awareness of the potential for exploitation / abuse and prevention / intervention strategies.

HSCP – Safeguarding Disabled Children Including Those with Complex Needs

The aim of this course is to increase participant’s awareness of the particular vulnerabilities of disabled children and to provide them with an opportunity to explore ways in which we can effectively safeguard disabled children from harm. This is a one-day face-to-face course.

With a strong emphasis on multi-agency working and information sharing, this newly developed half-day course is designed to create greater awareness of Missing, Exploited and Trafficked Children including links to Modern Slavery and County Lines. Whilst it will build upon national issues, this course will focus on what is happening in Hampshire, exploring real issues that front-line professional staff face within Hampshire, enabling you to know what to look for and how to detect child exploitation, including reporting pathways and risk assessment tools.

HSCP / HSAB – Adopting a Family Approach to Tackling Substance / Alcohol Misuse, Mental Health and Domestic Abuse 

The overarching aim of this one day workshop is to support professionals from both children / adult sectors to take a step back and think about how issues such as Mental Health, Substance Misuse, and Domestic Violence affect all family members, including children (as well as unborn babies) and adults at risk as defined in the Care Act 2014.  This development will enable delegates to be able to identify indicators of Mental Health, Substance Misuse, and Domestic Violence; understand their role within a family and the needs of the child / adult living with hidden harm.  This is a one-day face-to-face course.

This course is to support leaders and managers to fulfil their role and responsibilities in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. It highlights HSCP’s Principles and Standards for Safeguarding Supervision and the requirement for managers to provide space for reflective practice to be carried out and support reflection on the impact of decisions made in their work with families. It is a one day face-to-face course targeted at operational managers. There is a selection process for this course, submitting a nomination is not a guarantee of a place.

HSCP – Working with Hostile Families and Disguised Compliance

This training will equip practitioners to understand the context and their responsibilities when working with hostile, resistant families and those who use disguised compliance. It is training which highlights to practitioners the importance of reflective, critical, analytical practice and the importance of regular supervision, and offers techniques and approaches to help practitioners to develop resilient strategies when working with complex families. This is a one-day face-to-face course.

HSCP – Listening and Responding to Children – The Impact of Abuse and Attachment Problems

This training is a two day face-to-face course to develop further skills in listening to and communicating with children and young people. The course emphasises skills development through experiential learning, participants should be willing to role play in a confidential and safe setting.

Allocation of Places

Places are allocated on a first come first serve basis, although selection and prioritisation may be undertaken to ensure multi-agency representation.
