LAUNCH EVENT: Safeguarding Adolescents in Hants & IOW

1 November 2021 — Hampshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (HSCP) and the Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Partnership (IOWSCP) will launch the new Safeguarding Adolescents Strategy and associated online Safeguarding Adolescents Toolkit next month to support professionals working with young people and their families in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight areas.

Adolescence is a transitional period of physical and psychological development between childhood and adulthood, the cultural purpose of which involves preparation to assume adult roles. The Strategy and Toolkit is designed to support the improvement of outcomes for children transitioning through this period to safeguard them from psychological and physical harm.

To mark the launch, two MS Teams webinars, Safeguarding Adolescents in Hampshire, and Isle of Wight, are scheduled for Thursday 9 December, at 15:30-17:00 and a twilight session at 18:00-19:30. Attendance from partner agencies across the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Partnerships is encouraged. Learning will be relevant for professionals from operational to senior management roles.

Delegates attending the free launch event will achieve the following learning outcomes:

  • Identify and provide an early effective response and intervention to safeguarding young people at risk of harm.
  • Introduce the Safeguarding Adolescent Strategy and Toolkit.
  • Share learning from relevant Child Safeguarding Practice reviews.
  • Promote how the Strategy and Toolkit can support professional practice.
  • Explore how key messages can be disseminated and opportunities for further training.
